Disproportionate Share Payments to Qualifying Hospitals

 The Department of Human Services (Department) is providing final public notice of its funding allocation and payment methodology changes for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-2022 Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments to qualifying acute care general hospitals to provide financial relief to hospitals and promote access to acute care services for Medical Assistance (MA) beneficiaries in this Commonwealth during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Department is not otherwise changing the qualifying criteria for these payments.

 The Department published notice of its intent to allocate funding and amend payment methodology for these payments at 51 Pa.B. 5913 (September 11, 2021). The Department received no comments during the 30-day comment period. The Department will implement the changes set forth in the notice of intent.

Fiscal Impact

 For FY 2021-2022, the Department will allocate $85.586 million in total (State and Federal) funds for these DSH payments.
