Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Program (AFIG) Opportunity Notice

   The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Bureau of Air Quality announces Cycle 7 of a program to promote and expand the use of alternative transportation fuels and fuel systems such as compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), propane (LPG), ethanol (E85), and methanol (M85) (85% alcohol and 15% gasoline mixture) and advanced electric vehicle systems in private and public sector vehicles. The DEP will provide a portion of the cost for the purchase and installation of equipment necessary to retrofit existing vehicles, the purchase of Original Equipment Manufacturer produced vehicle technologies or to build or improve refueling and recharging facilities. Applications to cover the cost of field testing and evaluating new alternative fuel vehicle technologies are also eligible for funding. Eligible applicants for incentive grants are schools and vocational school districts, municipal authorities; counties; cities; boroughs; incorporated towns; townships; county institution districts; corporations; partnerships; nonprofit entities; and Commonwealth residents. An application package, which provides more details on the program, can be obtained from the Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Air Quality, P. O. The deadline for submitting a Cycle 7 application to the DEP is October 1, 1999.
