Notice of Proposed Exchange of Lands

   The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (Department), acting through the Bureau of For-estry, and Seneca Resources Corporation are proposing to negotiate an exchange of lands in Potter, Elk and Cameron Counties.

   The Bureau of Forestry is proposing to acquire from Seneca Resources a 993.59 acre tract of land almost completely interior to the Susquehannock State Forest in Potter County, Wharton Township, as well as a vehicular easement to access Elk State Forest lands from the Gray Hill Road in Elk County, Jay Township.

   In return, the Bureau of Forestry proposes to convey to Seneca Resources an isolated Elk State Forest tract of 999.26 acres, together with the right of way of Bobby Run Road, both in Cameron County, Shippen Township.

   An environmental assessment has been conducted on the subject properties, with no significant concerns or hazards having been identified.

   As is the policy of the Department, the public is hereby notified of this exchange. A 30-day period for public inquiry or comment, or both, will be in effect commencing April 24, 2000, and ending May 23, 2000. Oral or written comments or questions concerning this proposed exchange may be addressed to: Dr. James R. Grace, State Forester, Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, P. O.    If, in the duration of the 30-day comment period, a significant amount of public concern develops, the Secretary of the Department may schedule a public informational meeting.
