Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC Program); Change in the Maximum Allowable Cost for Food Prescription Two

[30 Pa.B. 955]

Under 28 Pa. Code § 1103.4(a)(6), the Department of Health (Health), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC Program) is publishing notice of a change in the maximum allowable cost for Food Prescription Two.

On January 26, 2000, Ross Products Division of Abbott Laboratories (Ross) notified the WIC Program and all retail and wholesale customers, of an increase in the price of infant formula manufactured by the company. Ross is the primary provider of infant formula for the WIC Program and provides the current contract brand of infant formula used by the majority of participants of the WIC Program. The manufacturer's price increase, effective February 1, 2000, affects the contract brand of infant formula purchased by WIC participants.

As a result of the price increase by the infant formula manufacturer, the WIC Program has increased the maximum allowable cost of Food Prescription Two set forth in 28 Pa. Code § 1103.4(a)(6) from $98.16 to $101.76. Food Prescription Two consists of 24 13 ounce cans of concentrated contract brand of milk or soy based infant formula.

The increase in the maximum allowable costs for Food Prescription Two is effective February 1, 2000.
