Keystone Health Plan West, Inc.; Rate Filing

   Keystone Health Plan West, Inc. (KHPW) requested approval to increase the premium rates for its Direct Pay HMO Plan. The proposed increase of 15.3% of current premium or $36.05 per contract per month for the medically underwritten product and $77.40 per contract per month for the guaranteed issue product. This will affect about 16,579 contract holders and produce additional premium income of $7.25 million. At the same time KHPW is also requesting to utilize 5-year age banded rates instead of its current 10-year age band structure for the medically underwritten product. The guaranteed issue product will remain in the current 10-year age band structure. In addition, KHPW is proposing to add a deducible to the prescription drug benefit for this product. The requested effective date of these changes is May 1, 2001.

   This filing is available for public inspection during normal working hours at the Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Erie Regional Offices.

   Interested parties are invited to submit written comments, suggestions or objections to Cherri Sanders-Jones, Actuary, Insurance Department, Bureau of Accident and Health Insurance, Office of Rate and Policy Regulation, 1311 Strawberry Square, Harrisburg, PA 17120, within 30 days of publication of this notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
