Climate Change Advisory Committee Meeting

[40 Pa.B. 1459]
[Saturday, March 13, 2010]

The Department of Environmental Protection (Department) announces the following meeting:

 Adaptation to Climate Change Kick-off Meeting, Wednesday, March 24, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Adaptation to Climate Change Meeting will be held in the Auditorium of the Rachel Carson State Office Building, 400 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17105.

The goal of the meeting is to launch adaptation strategy discussions to enable the Commonwealth to better understand and then plan for the challenges resulting from climate impacts, including warmer temperatures, longer growing season and more severe storm events that are occurring now. Adaptation is necessary to help human and natural systems respond to the effects of climate change that have begun to appear. The adaptation planning process will bring together key public and private stakeholders with expertise in natural resources, public health and safety, infrastructure, tourism and outdoor recreation.

The Climate Change Advisory Committee advises the department regarding implementation of the provisions of the Pennsylvania Climate Change Act of 2008 (Act 70). The priorities for this committee include developing pathways for implementation of greenhouse gas reductions; evaluating economic opportunities for mitigation strategies that were quantified in the Pennsylvania Climate Change Action Plan; and identifying goals for adaptation to climate change.

Questions concerning this meeting should be directed to Kim Hoover, Office of Energy and Technology Deployment, P. O. Box 8772, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8772, (717) 772-5161, khoover@state.pa.us.

Persons in need of accommodations as provided for in the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 should contact Kim Hoover at (717) 772-5161 or through the Pennsylvania AT&T Relay Service at (800) 654-5984 (TDD) to discuss how the Department may accommodate their needs.
