New Class of Disproportionate Share Hospital Payments

 The Department of Human Services (Department) is providing final notice of its establishment of a new class of disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payments for qualifying Medical Assistance (MA) enrolled acute care general hospitals to promote access to hospital services for MA eligible persons in this Commonwealth by providing additional support for the operations of an academic medical program through the medical education of health care professionals needed to treat the MA population.

 The Department published notice of its intent to implement this new class of DSH payments at 45 Pa.B. 3425 (June 27, 2015). The Department received no public comments during the comment period and has implemented the qualifying criteria and payment methodology as described in its notice of intent.

Fiscal Impact

 The Fiscal Year 2014-2015 impact is $1.660 million ($0.800 million in State general funds).
