Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error Fund; Calculation of Podiatrist Liability; Notice 2004-02

   The Insurance Department (Department), Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error Fund, under section 716 of the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (MCARE) Act (act) (40 P. S. § 1303.716), has prepared a report that calculates the amount necessary to arrange for the separate retirement of the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (MCARE) Fund's liabilities associated with podiatrists, a health care provider class that is eligible to participate in MCARE under the act. The report estimates that as of April 30, 2004, MCARE's outstanding liability associated with podiatrists is approximately $7.4 million.
