STATE BOARD FOR CERTIFICATION OF SEWAGE ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

2009 Revised Academy and Examination Announcement

   The State Board for Certification of Sewage Enforcement Officers (Board) and the Department of Environmental Protection (Department) has cancelled the July Sewage Enforcement Officers (SEO) academy due to lack of interest and changed the location of the July SEO exam. An additional academy and exam have been scheduled for October. To qualify to sit for the certification examination, all SEO candidates must complete the Precertification Academy, which consists of 6 days of training over 2 weeks. Examination applications must be received (not postmarked) by the Board, complete and correct by close of business on the deadlines indicated. Applications received after these dates will not be considered for examination. Applications that do not contain all the necessary required information will be returned and will not be considered eligible for the examination. The 2009 examinations are as follows:

   The July 2009, Precertification Academy in State College has been cancelled. The July 17, 2009, exam location has been changed from State College to the Department of Environmental Protection, RCSOB, 10th Floor Conference Room, 400 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA.

   To qualify to sit for the certification exam, all SEO candidates must complete the SEO Precertification Academy, which consists of 6 days of training spread over 2 weeks.

   For information on SEO training, contact the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors, 4855 Woodland Drive, Enola, PA 17025, (717) 763-0930.

   The SEO written examination contains multiple-choice questions covering planning requirements, administration and enforcement of the permit program and technical criteria for soils and disposal systems with a 3.5-hour time limit. The passing grade is 50% correct responses in each subject area and an overall minimum of 70 correct answers on the entire examination. This is an open book exam; however, you are not permitted to bring your own materials. All necessary reference materials will be provided at the test site.

   Exam applications may be obtained by contacting the Department of Environmental Protection, Certification and Licensing Section, Rachel Carson State Office Building, 400 Market Street, P. O. Box 8454, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8454, (717) 787-6045.

   Approximately 2 weeks prior to an examination, applicants will receive an admittance letter from the Certification Board.
