Listing of the Northern Long-eared Bat and Permit Reviews

 Permit reviews may now be impacted by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service's listing of the Northern Long-eared Bat (bat) (Myotis septentrionalis) as a Federally threatened species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C.A. §§ 1531—1544). The threatened status for the bat was effective on May 4, 2015.

 The Department of Environmental Protection (Department) requires applicants for certain permits and authorizations to conduct a Pennsylvania Natural Diversity Inventory (PNDI) search using the PNDI Environmental Review Tool for potential impacts to Federal and State threatened and endangered species, special concern species and special concern resources. As of May 4, 2015, the PNDI search tool reflects the addition of the bat.

 With the addition of this bat to the list of threatened species, all PNDI searches in this Commonwealth now have the potential to identify this bat as potential concern in specific areas. Therefore, any search that was done before May 4, 2015, did not encompass the Federally- listed bat and will need to be rerun for this threatened species.
