Medical Assistance Reliant Hospital Supplemental Payments

[Saturday, February 13, 2016]The Department of Human Services (Department) is announcing its intent to allocate funding in Fiscal Year (FY) 2015-2016 for supplemental payments to qualifying acute care general hospitals (hospital) that provide a substantial portion of their inpatient services to Pennsylvania Medical Assistance (MA) beneficiaries. Hospitals with a patient population consisting largely of MA beneficiaries provide access to hospital services that otherwise may not be available to these individuals. The Department does not intend to otherwise change the qualifying criteria or payment methodology for these payments.
Fiscal Impact
The FY 2015-2016 impact of the funding allocation for these payments is $0.300 million ($0.144 million in State general funds and $0.156 million in Federal funds upon approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
Public Comment
Interested persons are invited to submit written comments regarding this notice to the Department of Human Services, Office of Medical Assistance Programs, c/o Regulations Coordinator, Room 515, Health and Welfare Building, Harrisburg, PA 17120. The Department will review and consider comments received within 30 days for potential revision of the supplemental payments.
