Amendment Referendum of the Pennsylvania Potato Research Program

[Saturday, June 24, 2017]Under the applicable provisions of 3 Pa.C.S. §§ 4501—4513 (relating to Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act), an amendment referendum was held from April 24 to May 9, 2017, to determine if the producers affected by the Pennsylvania Potato Research Program (Program) assented to amend the Program as described in the Referendum Order published at 47 Pa.B. 2444 (April 29, 2017). A teller committee met on May 15, 2017, to count the ballots. The results were as follows: a total of 31 eligible votes were cast with 24 producers voting in favor of and 7 producers voting against the amendment. An additional four ballots were ineligible because they did not meet the requirements of a potato producer. Additionally, eligible producers voting in favor of the Program amendment represented 77% of the votes and 81% of production acreage. Producers voting against the proposed amendment represented 23% of the votes and 19% of production acreage. In accordance with the foregoing, the Program Order is amended as proposed in the Referendum Order published at 47 Pa.B. 2444 and shall become effective 21 days from publication of the notice of issuance in accordance with 3 Pa.C.S. § 4509 (relating to notice of issuance).
