STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION

Application to Establish a Community College in Erie County; Public Hearing

 The Special Committee of the State Board of Education (Board) established to facilitate the Board's consideration of the plan submitted by Erie County seeking to establish the Erie County Community College will conduct a public hearing on October 10, 2017, at 6 p.m. The hearing will be held in the Auditorium of the Raymond M. Blasco Memorial Library, 160 East Front Street, Erie, PA 16507.

 Under section 1902-A(a)(2) of the Public School Code (24 P.S. § 19-1902-A(a)(2)), the Board is responsible for approving or disapproving plans for the establishment or operation of a community college. The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comment on the application to establish a new community college for the Board's consideration in making a determination on the plan.

 Public comment is limited to no more than 5 minutes per person. Individuals must register in advance to provide public comment at the hearing no later than October 5, 2017, at 4 p.m. by contacting the Board at (717) 787-3787 or ra-stateboardofed@pa.gov, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

 Individuals with disabilities who wish to attend the hearing and require an auxiliary aid, service or other accommodation to participate should contact Ann Szwajkowski, ADA Coordinator, by October 5, 2017, at 4 p.m. at (717) 705-5646 to discuss how the Board may best accommodate their needs. Persons with disabilities are invited to submit public comments in alternative formats such as Braille or taped testimony and by means of telephone. Written and alternative formats of public comment will be afforded the same thoughtful consideration by the Board as oral remarks.

 Registrants scheduled to provide public comment who need to cancel their participation, are requested to immediately notify the Board at (717) 787-3787 or ra-stateboardofed@pa.gov.
