Action of Controlled Plant and Noxious Weed Committee; Addition of Noxious Weeds to Controlled Plants and Noxious Weed List

[Saturday, August 7, 2021]A meeting of the Controlled Plant and Noxious Weed Committee (Committee) was held virtually on July 15, 2021, by means of Microsoft Teams.
A special meeting notice was published at 51 Pa.B. 3607 (July 3, 2021).
The purpose of the meeting was to consider the addition of three plants to the noxious weed list, as authorized under 3 Pa.C.S. § 1511(b)(3)(ii) (relating to designation of noxious weeds and controlled plants).
A quorum of the Committee was present at the meeting. After a presentation by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture (Department), the acknowledgement of written public comments received and a discussion of the Committee, the Committee voted to approve the following weeds for addition to the noxious weed list.
• Berberis thunbergii—Japanese Barberry as a Class B Noxious Weed
• Microstegium vimineum—Japanese stiltgrass as a Class B Noxious Weed
• Alliaria petiolate—Garlic mustard as a Class B Noxious Weed
Under the authority and requirements of 3 Pa.C.S. § 1511(b)(3)(iv), the Department hereby publishes the addition of Japanese barberry, Japanese stiltgrass and Garlic mustard to the noxious weed list.
The addition of the previously listed plants to the controlled plants and noxious weeds list will become effective 60 days from publication of this notice.
