Proposed Exchange of Property

[Saturday, February 20, 2021]The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (Department), acting through the Bureau of Forestry, and Mifflintown Municipal Authority are proposing to negotiate an exchange of property interests in Milford Township, Juniata County.
The exchange would involve 4 acres currently owned by the Mifflintown Municipal Authority, in Milford Township, Juniata County which is adjacent to the East Licking Creek Maintenance Division Headquarters, Tuscarora State Forest, for an equivalent valued parcel of 12 acres of the Tuscarora State Forest just to the West and also in Milford Township, Juniata County. The Mifflintown Municipal Authority would reserve the right to harvest timber, in accordance with the best management practices set forth in the Best Management Practices for Pennsylvania Forests: Promoting forest stewardship through edu-cation, cooperation, and voluntary action, as published and amended by the Penn State Extension, on the property to be conveyed to the Department for a period of 1 year. The purpose of the proposed exchange is to provide additional space for the expansion and construction of a new Tuscarora State Forest maintenance headquarters.
As is the policy of the Department, the public is hereby notified of this proposed exchange. A 30-day period for public inquiry or comment, or both, will be in effect beginning February 20, 2021, and ending March 21, 2021. Written documents are also available regarding the proposed land exchange by request.
If, in the duration of the 30-day comment period, a significant amount of public concern develops, the Secretary of the Department may schedule a public informational meeting.
