2023 Sewage Enforcement Officer Certification Examination and Board Meeting Schedule Changes

[Saturday, September 30, 2023]The Sewage Enforcement Officer (SEO) certification examination scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2023, and the State Board for Certification of Sewage Enforcement Officers (Board) meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, have been cancelled.
The Board and the Department of Environmental Protection (Department) have scheduled additional examination dates for 2023. To qualify to sit for the certification examination, all SEO candidates must complete the Pre-Certification Soils Course and the Pre-Certification Academy. Examination applications must be received (not postmarked) by the Board, complete and correct, by close of business on the deadline indicated. Applications received after these dates will not be considered for examination. Applications that do not contain all the necessary required information will be returned and will not be considered eligible for the examination. The information for the additional examination dates are as follows:

Aliquippa, PA 15001The Board is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 10 a.m. in the Rachel Carson State Office Building. Individuals may attend in person or remotely.
The SEO written examination contains 100 multiple-choice questions covering planning requirements, administration and enforcement of the permit program and technical criteria for soils and disposal systems with a 3.5-hour time limit. The passing grade is 50% correct responses in each subject area and an overall minimum of 70 correct answers on the entire examination. This is an open book examination. Applicants are not permitted to bring their own materials. Necessary reference materials will be provided at the test site.

Applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail from the Board prior to the date of the examination.
Persons who anticipate the need for a testing accommodation due to a disability should contact the Board at (717) 772-5157 or through the Pennsylvania Hamilton Relay Service at (800) 654-5984 (TDD) to discuss their request. This request must be submitted with the application form.
