ME90028 Governor Ridge has proposed funding for a new Pennsylvania Governor's School of Excellence (PGSE), the Pennsylvania Governor's School for Information Technology (PGSIT), to commence planning and operation of a pilot program this summer. The PGSIT must target the needs of gifted and talented high school students in a 5 week-long residential learning experience that stimulates creative problem-solving, higher order thinking skills and leadership qualities in a cooperative environment. PGSE programs begin in July and can run into August. Eligible applicants are higher education institutions within the Commonwealth.

EDURFA Application guidelines for the Education Mentoring Initiative, a component of the Interagency Project for Community Building, are available to interested parties who call the Director's Office, Bureau of Community and Student Services at (717) 783-3755. The Education Mentoring Initiative provides funding for nonprofit, community-based organizations working in partnership with schools to link responsible, caring adults with at-risk children and youth. The mentors provide role models to help ensure students stay in school and become positive role models themselves to others in their community.
