AIPSO; Private Passenger Automobile; Rate Revisions; Rate Filing

[Saturday, January 24, 2009]On January 9, 2009, the Insurance Department (Department) received from AIPSO proposed revisions to rates pertaining to the Pennsylvania Assigned Risk Plan to be effective May 1, 2009, for new business and June 1, 2009, for renewal business. The previous rate change for the Pennsylvania Assigned Risk Plan became effective June 15, 1992.
The pending filing proposes an overall revenue-neutral change which includes the following:
* An overall increase to liability rates of 1%.
* An overall decrease to physical damage rates of 15%.
* A decrease in the expense constant from $4 to $2.
* Rate changes that vary by individual coverage and territory.
Unless formal administrative action is taken prior to March 10, 2009, the subject filing may be deemed approved by operation of law.
