Right-to-Know Law and Sunshine Law Annual Training

 The Office of Open Records (OOR) is conducting its annual training on the Right-to-Know Law (RTKL) (65 P.S. §§ 67.101—67.3104) and 65 Pa.C.S. §§ 701—716 (relating to Sunshine Act) on October 23, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Hearing Room 1, Commonwealth Keystone Building, 400 North Street, Harrisburg, PA 17120. This year's training will consist of two sessions, each followed by a question and answer period.

 The first session will provide an overview of the RTKL and the Sunshine Act. This session will discuss the mechanics and deadlines of the RTKL, including: the request and response process; an overview of the various exemptions and privileges agencies can raise to withhold records under the RTKL; and a discussion of the RTKL appeal process and procedures before the OOR. This session will also include a discussion of how and when the Sunshine Act applies to agencies.

 The second session will consist of a presentation providing an overview of recent Commonwealth and Supreme Court decisions related to the RTKL as well as notable OOR decisions from the last year. This session will also include a panel discussion addressing current trends in the RTKL and open government generally.

 The training is free and open to everyone, including citizens, public officials, agency open records officer, attorneys and members of the media. The training can be attended in person or online. This program is pending approval for 1.5 CLE hours. Individuals may register online at https://oor-training-2017.eventbrite.com.
