Cooking in Healthy Electrified Commercial Kitchens Rebate Program

 The Department of Environmental Protection (Department) announces the extension of its rebate program, Cooking in Healthy Electrified Commercial Kitchens (Program), as well as updates to eligibility and incentive amounts. The Program aims to help commercial kitchens in the Commonwealth modernize and become healthier places to work by means of energy efficiency and electrification. Since October 2022, the Program has provided rebates to nonprofits, higher education institutions and K—12 schools for a variety of combustion-free cooking equipment, as well as associated electrical upgrades.

 The rebate application period will remain open until December 31, 2023. To qualify for the rebate, the applicant must be one of the following entities: a Commonwealth-based K—12 school district, higher education institution, not-for-profit hospital or nonprofit whose mission is geared toward community services, such as soup kitchens, shelters or food banks. In addition, beginning on July 5, 2023, restaurants in this Commonwealth will also be eligible for Program rebates. A representative from the school, institution, business or nonprofit must watch a prerecorded Program webinar, attend a live Program webinar or attend an in-person workshop in order to apply for the rebate. The prerecorded webinars, as well as dates for the in-person workshops and live webinar, can be found at https://www.dep.pa.gov/Business/Energy/OfficeofPollutionPrevention/Energy_Efficiency_ and_Conservation/CommercialBuildings/Pages/default. aspx. The application must be submitted to the Department prior to the installation of the equipment. Equipment purchase costs are eligible, as well as associated electrical infrastructure upgrades to accommodate additional load. The rebate will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis in the order in which they are received. Up to 40% of the rebates will be allotted for community service nonprofits or buildings located in or servicing environmental justice communities, as defined by the Department's Office of Environmental Justice. In order to receive rebate moneys, approved applicants will be issued a voucher. They then have 6 months to install eligible equipment and submit a payment request form with required documentation to the Department.

 The following revised rebate amounts are offered for commercial kitchens by eligible entities:

 • $4,000 rebate for ENERGY STAR certified steam cooker, fryer, combination oven, convection oven, griddle, hot food holding cabinet (up to 50% of purchase cost).

 • $7,500 rebate for demand control kitchen ventilation system (up to 50% of purchase cost).

 • $7,500 rebate for induction range, cooktop, wok, griddle (up to 50% of purchase cost).

 • $1,000 rebate for associated electrical infrastructure upgrades to accommodate additional load from induction equipment (up to 50% of infrastructure cost).

 Applicants may apply under each category, but no more than a total of $8,500 in rebates will be issued to any one applicant.

 Entities who applied for and received a Program rebate during year one of the program (between October 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023) are eligible to apply again on July 5, 2023, for the maximum rebate amount of $8,500 for new projects.

 The Program guidelines and application instructions are available on the Department's web site at https://www.dep.pa.gov/CommercialBuildings.

 Applications must be submitted online through the Commonwealth's Electronic Single Application web site at www.esa.dced.state.pa.us/Login.aspx. Hardcopy applications will not be accepted. The Department will begin accepting applications for the increased rebate amounts and from restaurants on July 5, 2023. Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 2023.
