Availability of Funds

 The Department of Education, Bureau of Postsecondary and Adult Education, Division of Adult Education announces the availability, on a competitive basis, of approximately $2 million in grant funds to be awarded under section 243, Title II of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) (29 U.S.C.A. § 3333).

 This funding is for integrated English literacy and civics education activities, in combination with integrated education and training activities. Integrated English literacy and civics education activities are education services provided to English language learners who are adults, including professionals with degrees or credentials in their native countries that enable such adults to achieve competency in the English language and acquire the basic and more advanced skills needed to function effectively as parents, workers and citizens in the United States. Integrated English literacy and civics education services must include instruction in literacy and English language acquisition and instruction on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and civic participation and may include workforce training. In addition, services provided with funds under section 243 of WIOA must be designed to prepare adults who are English language learners for, and place such adults in, unsubsidized employment in in-demand industries and occupations that lead to economic self-sufficiency and integrate with the local workforce development system and its functions to carry out the activities of the program.
