MUNICIPAL POLICE OFFICERS' EDUCATION AND TRAINING COMMISSION
Approved Reading Comprehension Tests

[Saturday, January 20, 2024]The Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (Commission) publishes the following notice in accordance with the requirements of 53 Pa.C.S. § 2164(8)(iii)(A) (relating to powers and duties of commission), as amended by Act 37 of 2023. Section 2164(8)(iii)(A) requires the Commission to approve at least two reading comprehension tests that can be used to demonstrate reading comprehension as a prerequisite to employment as a police officer. At a special meeting held on December 21, 2023, the Commission voted on and approved the following reading comprehension tests, which may be used immediately:
1. The Nelson-Denny reading test requiring a score of at least a ninth-grade reading level.
2. The National Police Officer Selection Test consisting of the Reading Comprehension section requiring a score of at least 70%.
