Pennsylvania Apple Marketing Program; Referendum

[27 Pa.B. 2433]

Under the applicable provisions of the Pennsylvania Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act of 1968, a referendum was held from April 11 to April 25, 1997, to determine if the producers affected by the Pennsylvania Apple Marketing Program desired to have the Program continue for another 5 years. In order to pass, a majority of eligible producers voting had to vote in favor of the Program continuing. An impartial Teller Committee met on April 30, 1997, to count the ballots. The following results were submitted to me by the Teller Committee: a total of 141 eligible votes were cast, with 78 producers voting in favor of and 63 producers voting against continuing the Program. The eligible votes favoring continuation of the Program represented 55.3% of the eligible votes and those against continuation of the Program represented 44.7% of the eligible votes. There were five spoiled or ineligible ballots. Because a majority of the votes were cast in favor of the Program, the Pennsylvania Apple Marketing Program shall continue for another 5 years.
