Public Hearing and Meeting of the Health Research Advisory Committee

   The Health Research Advisory Committee (Committee) will hold a public hearing and a public meeting on April 29, 2002. The public hearing and meeting will be held in Room 100, Labor and Industry Building, Forster and Seventh Streets, Harrisburg, PA.

   State fiscal year 2001-02 priorities for both formula-funded and nonformula-funded health research under the Tobacco Settlement Act are posted on the Department of Health's website (www.health.state.pa.us) under Act 77/Tobacco Settlement Act, Commonwealth Universal Research Enhancement Program. On February 4, 2002, the Committee voted to continue unchanged for State fiscal year 2002-03 the State fiscal year 2001-02 health research priorities for the formula funds. The primary purpose of the public hearing is to obtain suggestions for nonformula funded health research priorities for State fiscal year 2002-03, but comments on the formula-funded priorities are welcome.

   The public hearing will be held from 9:30 a.m.--12 p.m. Comments must be submitted in writing, no later than 2:30 p.m. on April 8, 2002, to the Department of Health, Bureau of Health Statistics, Health Research Program, 555 Walnut Street, 6th Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17120-1900. Written comments must be no more than two typewritten pages. Persons wishing to present written statements orally at the public hearing must contact David Hooper at (717) 783-2548 by 2:30 p.m. on April 8, 2002, to make a reservation to testify at the hearing. Oral testimony will be limited to 3 minutes. Persons will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis, as time permits.

   A meeting of the Committee will be held from 1 p.m. --4:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the research priorities for nonformula funds for the State fiscal year 2002-03.

   No reservations are required to attend the public meeting.
