Availability for Comment of Amendment to Pennsylvania Blue Shield Regulations for Preferred Providers

   Pennsylvania Blue Shield has submitted an amendment to the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Regulations for Preferred Providers to the Department of Health for its review and approval in accordance with requirements of 40 Pa.C.S. § 6324(a) (relating to rights of health service doctors). The amendment is as follows:

In the event of the voluntary or involuntary termination of the Preferred Provider Agreement, the preferred provider agrees upon request to cooperate with [Blue Shield] [Blue Cross Blue Shield] in its obtaining information regarding those members enrolled in a Managed Care Plan that may be affected by such termination because they are undergoing an ongoing course of treatment or are otherwise active patients of the preferred provider. Such information includes the name, address and identification number of affected Managed Care Plan members.

   This language is inserted as a new subsection under Section C--Managed Care Provisions of the Regulations for Preferred Providers.

   Comments regarding this amendment may be submitted in writing within 15 days of the date of publication of this notice to Bill Wiegmann, Director, Division of Certification, Bureau of Managed Care, Department of Health, Room 912 Health and Welfare Building, Harrisburg, PA 17108, (717) 787-5193.

   Copies of the amended document are available for inspection during normal working hours in Room 912 of the Health and Welfare Building. Persons wishing to review the document should contact Bill Wiegmann to make arrangements.
